I have always loved making things. It started with cut + paste in primary school and continued through Brownies, where there were more jute-covered tin can pencil holders and macrame god's eyes than I care to remember. But still, there is something about making things that is deeply appealing to me. I took a long crafting hiatus - bookended between a devastating Home Ec class in grade seven and getting married - but I came back to handmade a few years ago, and now my idea of a good time is a stack of thrift shop pillowcases, my sewing machine and a couple of kid-free hours. I'm no expert, and I prefer quick and easy projects that can be completed in an evening over complicated projects that stretch out over weeks (and that I never seem to finish). When I first got the idea to open Honeybunch I imagined it as a working studio. A place to shop, yes, but also a place to craft, to make things and to connect with like-minded folks who appreciate handcrafted. Hosting craft classes has always been part of my dream for this place, so without further ado I'm delighted to announce the first class has been scheduled. Details are here but generally it's a simple sewing class for those folks who are interested in dipping a toe in crafty waters. No experience and no machine necessary, and you'll leave with at least one fully completed project. Promise.
As for those thrifted pillowcases, what can you make with a scrap of fabric you ask? Why I can think of at least half a dozen things: a sweet apron, an easy-breezy summer skirt, a handful of tissue pouches, a library tote bag, a lunch bag, pyjama pants...
